Bren Vasil | Age:16 | Condition: Synesthesia | FC: Keir Gilchrist | OPEN
Perception is an interesting concept. No two realities are precisely the same. Everyone sees the world differently, but normally these differences are more subtle. For Bren these differences stand out in stark contrast. When he sees grass he feels pain, or when the number 13 comes to mind purple hues burst in his head, he can taste blue, or even hear yellow. He often depicts people in ways such as “s/he is very cloud-esque.”These descriptions make perfect sense to him. His experiences since birth have not mandated by his disorder. He never let it define him. There is much more psyche. A writer by trade and soul, Bren notices things that others glance over. He has soft hands, and a timorous voice. Except for he is advocating for one of the several campaigns which he is an activist for. Though there have been periods where his disorder caused him harm. By far the worst experience is why he was enrolled in Brookhaven. A friend of his was in the hospital combating meningitis. In a vain attempt to raise her spirits Bren made a video. It is a video of her through his eyes, of how he saw her. Unfortunately the connotations he has a certain images are not the same as most people. The video viewed by someone that did not have Bren’s perspective might come off as if it is dark, perhaps even a little threatening. Trying once again to convey his meaning, he placed a large picture of her outside of her house. When he thought of her he pictured a warm fire. Thinking it was almost a romantic gesture he set the photo ablaze. Thinking Bren was some sick, psychotic kid, her parents placed a restraining over against Bren. The boy was left utterly devastated. He plead his parents to find a way to make him normal. All his life he embraced this disorder as something that allowed him view things in unique ways. Now he felt freakish and abnormal for the first time.
